Chief Executive Officer

Location: Remote with travel required

Direct Line Reports: Direct Staff employed by the Center, Executive Staff at Regional Chapters

Role Purpose

Reporting to the President and the Board of the WMO, the CEO is responsible for the Operational and Administrative functions of the Charity while supporting the Office Bearers, in the Formulation and Implementation of strategic goals to achieve the Aims and Objectives as set out in the Constitution.

The CEO must believe in the core values, be driven by the Mission and must have a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change. WMO is an organisation driven by the values of its people and the CEO must manage these “Values” in operational and administrative management of the organisation. 

The WMO is looking for a CEO who is well rounded with proven skills in senior management. The successful candidate will have a good understanding in the fields of business as well as an understanding of social communities, how they function and how to manage the complexities of maintaining unity within the variation of demographics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, implementation and management of the Annual Plan and budget. The plan should be developed with the input of all Chapters and Specialist Committees and must address both short and long-term goals of the organisation and be aligned with the strategic objectives.

  • Effectively build organisation and staff capacity, developing operational staff and processes at the Center and Regional Chapters that ensure the organisation achieves world class standards as a Non-Profit Organisation.

  • Deliver programs against the budget, timelines and organisation needs; problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness.

  • Anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into the organisational plan.

  • Managing and leading people, team building to scale up capacity, connect staff at Central and Regional levels.

  • Enforce accountability, develop and empower subordinates, cultivate passion for social and community among members.

  • Learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team to put people in a position to succeed.

  • Ensure all Zakath collection and disbursement is carried out as per the Policies and targets set by Executive Committee, including evaluating requests, follow up on project implementations, auditing and reporting on the projects implementation.

  • Implement membership drives with chapter officials, follow up on fee collections including Patron and Trustee fees, and ensure strong communication and follow up between the Members of the WMO, The regional chapters and the Center.

  • Assist the Investment Committee to ensure funds are deployed to optimise returns, manage risk, ensure proper maintenance of assets, ensure compliance for legal protection and follow up on collections.

  • Work closely with chapter officials to carry out annual audits of the regional chapters and Center in a timely manner keeping to the highest standards of auditing standards and principals.

  • Preparation of annual reports, circulation of the reports to the membership and work closely with host chapters to hold the Annual General Meeting.

  • Develop and manage communication channels between the WMO, it’s members and all other external stakeholders.

  • Formulation and implementation of necessary Policies and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure standardisation, consistency and transparency in all activities after obtaining the necessary approvals of the Executive Committee.

  • Strategise, formulate and implement non Zakath collection projects and activities with the support of central body and regional chapters in furtherance of aims and objectives of the WMO.

  • Ensuring compliance with the constitution and standing orders of the WMO and advising the central and regional Office Bearers to ensure compliance with the constitution in all acts and omissions of the WMO.

  • Assist the various specialist committees appointed by the Board of Trustees / Management Committee in their respective activities.

  • Initiate and manage regular meetings of the Office Bearers Council, Executive Committee, Board of Trustee Officials, Management Committee, Specialist Committees etc, circulation of minutes and follow up to ensure decisions are carried out in a timely and effective manner.

  • Thorough understanding of finance, administration, HR & Communication, strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, information systems, and marketing.

  • Overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary and implement decisions and directions of the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees and Management Committee.

  • Ensure that the audited financial statements of the regional chapters and the consolidated accounts of the WMO are completed timeously. Also ensuring quarterly management reports are circulated to Executive Committee on a timely basis prior to any meeting.

  • Collection and growth in Zakath and non-Zakath funds and projects.

  • Zakat disbursements – implementation and accountability of fund usage.

  • Growth in membership numbers.

  • ROI on investments.

  • Project implementation within budgets and agreed timelines.

  • High level of business acumen and stakeholder management.

  • Experience of working with High-Net-Worth individuals and families.

  • Strong ambassadorial skills.

  • Ability to take on and look for challenges, reactive and not afraid to take charge of a situation.

  • Ability to travel globally, with a valid passport to travel to Pakistan, India, Middle East, South Africa, USA and South East Asia amongst other areas is essential.

  • CEO or Director level experience within a recognised National or Global NGO is advantageous.

  • Active participation in social and community development work through NGOs such as Lions, Rotary, or similar organisations would also be advantageous.

  • A strong understanding or appreciation of the Memon Culture is essential.
